Laura Ukkonen
Laura Ukkonen has previously studied art history, women studies and textile design among other things. Now she has settled into pure art making, but is able to use her extensive knowledge of the history of painting to a great advantage in her drawings that fluently borrow from the imagery and styles of Pierre Bonnard (1867—1947), Honoré Daumier (1808—1879) and Rafael Wardi (1928—). Thematically her work could be described as "women studies in the form of drawing", so intensely she focuses on problems of culturally produced and biologically framed womanhood for example in drawings that deal with eating disorders.
