Jaana Kokko
Jaana Kokko (1972—) is a doctoral candidate. She concentrates on studying whether contemporary art can be a political force that is philosophically and socially meaningful and have a significant impact on society and economy. Her video The Reading Circle — Introduction to What is Political (2010, 32:30) focuses exactly on that. It's based on a reading circle Jaana hosted in her home, in which she and four other women read and discussed Hannah Arendt (1906—1975). For the video Jaana later asked the participants to read out loud bits of Arendt and spead out their own minds and experiences too. She also wrote fragments of Brechtian dialogue for the women to act. The end result is an enlightening meditation on what to make of Arendt's thinking today.
